From Banking to Farming: How Ranga Prasad Garu Built a 70-Acre Organic Legacy in Nagarkurnool

In an age where fast food and chemical-based agriculture dominate the mainstream, a quiet revolution is being led by individuals who believe in going back to the roots. One such pioneer is Ranga Prasad Immaneni, a former pharmaceutical graduate and banking professional, who has now turned into a successful organic farmer and entrepreneur.

The Unfulfilling Start: A Chemical Beginning

Ranga Prasad’s journey into farming began in 2014, but like many others, he stepped into agriculture without deep knowledge or experience. Initially, he adopted conventional chemical farming practices and heavy use of pesticides and fertilizers to maximize yield. But despite his efforts, the results left him dissatisfied. Over time, the growing dependency on chemical fertilizers, along with diminishing soil health and crop quality, began to concern him.

The Turning Point: Learning from the Villagers

The true shift began when Ranga Prasad engaged in conversations with local villagers, who shared wisdom passed down through generations about traditional organic farming methods. Inspired by the simplicity and sustainability of ancestral practices, he decided to take a bold leap.

In 2020, he invested in 70 acres of land in Jupally, located in the Nagarkurnool district of Telangana, and transitioned entirely to organic farming.

A Holistic Farming Ecosystem

What sets Ranga Prasad apart is his 360-degree approach to self-sufficient organic farming. On his expansive farm, he grows everything a household could possibly need from vegetables, pulses, green leafy vegetables, desi rice varieties, sesame seeds, to groundnuts. Taking it a step further, he even extracts cold-pressed oil using a traditional Ganuga (wooden press) powered by two oxen, a rare sight in modern agriculture.

Zero-Waste and 360-Degree Sustainability

Like any natural farm, there were challenges especially with pest-related spoilage. Instead of turning to chemical solutions, Ranga Prasad found an organic fix. He introduced country hens (naatu kodi) to his farm and began feeding them spoiled produce, which not only reduced waste but also led to the production of organic eggs.

This smart move is part of what he proudly calls a “360-degree food system”, where every element of the farm supports another, creating a truly sustainable and self-sufficient ecosystem.

He also highlights the value of cow dung and cow urine, which he uses as natural fertilizers reaffirming that nature provides everything we need, if only we care for it mindfully.

From Pharma to Farming: A Story of Reinvention

Born in 1963, Ranga Prasad Immaneni holds a Master’s degree in Pharmacy (M.Pharm) and previously held positions in respected financial and investment firms including State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH), Axis Bank, and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors. Despite a stable and successful corporate career, his passion for holistic living and natural farming drew him back to the land.
